SAFERIDER project: FEMA needs motorcyclists’ views before July 31st
In the past, FEMA has found that the development of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) often creates two types of problems for motorcyclists:
1. The first is that motorcyclists are generally forgotten in these developments (e.g. Intelligent Infrastructure, V2V communications, etc.);
2. Secondly, transport engineers often simply try to apply what works for cars to motorcycles, completely overlooking the specific characteristics and needs of the motorcycle and the motorcyclist.

FEMA 20th Anniversary: 1st MEP ride through Brussels!
On 25 June 2008, FEMA celebrated its 20th Anniversary with a special MEP Motorcycle Ride organised in Brussels. More than 150 people showed interest in participating in the various activities set up for the occasion, among which a beautiful ride through Brussels city centre, the heart of Europe.

12th MEP Ride in the capital of Europe
FEMA, the Federation of European Motorcyclists’ Associations, will be celebrating its 20th anniversary next Wednesday. For this occasion, FEMA is organising a special edition of its annual Ride with Members of the European Parliament to discover Brussels by bike.

Guardrails: great victory for motorcyclists worldwide!
On June 13th, CEN members voted a work item to improve the standard of safety barriers to take motorcyclists into account and reduce injuries and fatalities. This is a clear milestone for motorcyclists’ 20-year-long fight for their safety. The best birthday present FEMA (Federation of European Motorcyclists Associations) could dream of for its 20th anniversary!

ETSC report: mandatory ISA to improve motorcycle safety?
The European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) published its report on motorcycle safety today. While appreciating that other stakeholders finally consider the importance of motorcycle safety, FEMA believes that the report fails to prioritize recommendations on the most important issue: human behaviour.

A better care for the new motorcyclist
Newly qualified riders failing to recognize hazards, and pre-license training that has overly focused on machine control skills is a relation that has been recognised for a long time. Today, the motorcyclists themselves present a remedy for this disalignment in the pre-license training, namely the Initial Riders Training programme.

FEMA President opens the World’s First Vision Zero Motorcycle Road
A milestone for motorcycle safety, said FEMA President Hans Petter Strifeldt as he officially opened the World’s First Vision Zero Road for motorcycles along RV 32 in Telemark County in Norway 7 May 2008.

FEMA and FIM strengthen user cooperation to face motorcycling challenges
FEMA and FIM-CMT presidents met in Amsterdam to reiterate the need for both organisations to work together to face motorcycling challenges in Europe and worldwide .

This Sunday April 13th, FEMA newly elected President Hans Petter Strifeldt travelled from Oslo (Norway) to The Netherlands, home country of Achilles Damen, President of FIM’s Commission for Mobility and Transport (CMT), where a meeting was organised to discuss current challenges facing the motorcycling community.

Brussels, 22 February 2008: An Open Letter in Support of Higher Safety Levels on Europe’s Roads

We, the undersigned organisations (representing a broad range of road users, road safety organisations, public authorities, infrastructure operators and industries), welcome the proposal for a Directive on Road Infrastructure Safety Management, as being part of the “integrated approach to road safety” (linking the users, the vehicle and the infrastructure aspects) and a step in the right direction to reach the EU’s objective of halving the number of deaths on European roads by 2010.
